Wellness Center Services -When to Seek Treatment for Joint Pain

Pain is a common phenomenon with aging, but when is it right to visit a wellness center for treatment, especially for joint pain? People who lead an active lifestyle (such as biking, hiking and skiing) may sometimes experience pain in their joints occasionally. Most times, an achy knee or sore shoulder will heal on its own after resting, icing and elevating the area. However, joint pain may persist for many days, and that could be the indication you need to visit a wellness center.

When to seek treatment

A person who is experiencing joint pain needs to seek treatment if:

  • The joint pain is severe.
  • The joint pain persists for more than five days.
  • Joint is inflamed, hot or swollen.
  • Fever, chills or night sweats accompany the pain.
  • The joint locks, stiffens or gives way.

It is advisable to visit the wellness center for treatment as soon as possible. Even if the joint pain stops it may happen again. The joint pain will reoccur until it gets worse and more severe.

Chronic joint pain is often a sign of arthritis. Arthritis has different types, some of which may lead to permanent joint damage. For example, someone suffering from osteoarthritis of the knee may experience minor intermittent achiness. If the person suffers multiple cases of joint pain monthly or if the pain and stiffness are affecting their regular activities, seeking treatment may help to put the condition in check and maintain joint mobility.

Knowing what is wrong on time may help to relieve the pain and prevent joint pain from degenerating over time. The cause of joint pain could be anything from minor sprains and strains to more serious situations like bone cancer or leukemia. The most important point to note is that the earlier the diagnosis and treatment of the underlying cause of joint pain, the better the chances of successful treatment.

Several advanced diagnostic procedures are available for examining the joint carefully. The doctor will be able to suggest the best treatment to solve the joint problem. Innovative treatment options offered by wellness centers include stem cell therapy and platelet-rich plasma that utilizes the body’s natural healing ability and a few other minimally invasive treatments to stabilize the joint and alleviate pain.

Preparing for the appointment

The doctor at the wellness center will ask a few questions about the pain, including:

  • How and when did the pain start?
  • What aggravates or relieves the pain?
  • What treatments have been used previously?
  • What is the severity of the pain?
  • Does the joint stiffen or give way?

Patients need to be prepared to answer these questions when they seek treatment and must be aware of their medical history. During the visit, the patient will undergo a physical assessment to determine the joint’s mobility.

Final note

When you visit the wellness center for joint pain treatment, you may be provided with multiple treatment options to alleviate the pain. Joint pain can be treated. Do not be tempted to ignore or endure the pain. The earlier you seek treatment, the better.
